Enterprise Portfolio Simualtor ReleasedEnterprise Portfolio Simulator 2010 SP2 and SP3 Updates
EPS SP2 adds User-Defined Fixed Costs capability.  In addition to the three, default, fixed cost types (start, prorated, end), up to seven additional fixed cost categories can be custom defined along with their accrual method.  Projects imported from Microsoft Project Server (EPM) continue to save fixed costs from the projects to the first three default EPS fixed cost categories.  Projects imported from Excel, may have five fixed cost categories defined, which may be mapped to any EPS fixed cost category.

Finish Conditions have now been added. Tasks finish when all their work and duration are complete.  However, there are situations where a task should end based on the events of other tasks or a calendar date.  Finish Conditions are now available to allow the forced finish of a task. Finish Conditions can be defined in the new ‘Finish Condition’ tab in the task view, and are automatically created when importing from MS Project Server for tasks that have Finish-to-Finish dependencies and must finish.

The number of available text-based attribute categories has been increased from 20 to 60 for projects, tasks, and resources and most report series now support the viewing of data by percentiles.

There have also been some performance enhancements made to EPS.  Load times of various parts of the application have been greatly improved for large data sets.  The largest gains are in the task views and output reports, where 2x-10x reductions in load times have been realized. In addition to supporting the sending of emails using an SMTP mail server, EPS now supports SMTPS.

In EPS SP3 we have added Future Project Starts. Once projects are added to a Portfolio, they may be set to continually reoccur.  The number of future reoccurrences along with the occurrence frequency can be defined.  Projects will only reoccur in the future and not previous to the portfolio’s status date.

Users can now choose whether chart series show as bars, lines, areas, splines or spline areas.  Additionally, if the report is stacked, the series type will stack accordingly (i.e. stacked bars, stacked areas, etc.) Description: C:\Users\kevinj\AppData\Local\Temp\SNAGHTML2a94bda3.PNG
Description: C:\Users\kevinj\AppData\Local\Temp\SNAGHTML2aa7535d.PNG The values for data points shown in any chart (except Gantt) can now be displayed in a grid and exported to Excel in a pivot-friendly format.

Also, there is a new report that will export raw task start/finish values to Excel in a pivot-friendly format.

Resource mapping has been made easier too when importing projects. In MS Project and in the Excel Import Template, there exists a “Group” column in the resource sheet.  If this column contains the name of a Microsoft Project resource, the EPS resource will automatically be suggested during import.

Look for EPS 2011 coming out in May of 2011. It will be an entirely Silverlight Technology based application.  It will include calendar exceptions and many other enhancements.

ProModel 2010 Products ProModel MedModel ServiceModel ProModel, MedModel, ServiceModel 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Product Update is Available!
Now available for ProModel, MedModel, and ServiceModel 2010 is the Service Pack 2 (SP2) product update! This update features the new Output Viewer 4.1, enhancing how you can compare scenarios and gain insight into your results with new sorting capability, exporting of time series data, and the ability to quickly change chart types.

This release is available for download only from the Solutions Café.

Features:
Output Viewer 4.1 – this latest version has the following new capability:

  • Sort Column, Utilization, and State Charts – sort your chart data based on highest or lowest values. State charts will even let you choose which state should be sorted.
  • Export Time Series Data – similar to exporting Summary data, you can export any of your time series results from any scenario to Excel.
  • Change Chart Type –you can change the chart style from bar to line, from line to area, from pie to doughnut, etc. Choose from several different chart style options.

Enhancements:

  • The simulation end date has been extended beyond the year 2037 to now be 2100.
  • Zooming and panning performance during model edit and simulation has been optimized.
  • The scenarios dialog allows you to select or unselect all checkboxes by pressing Shift + left-click.
  • In Output Viewer, pressing Ctrl + left-mouse click will select or deselect all items within a group of items instead of all items in all groups, for example, in the Items list for Time Plots.
  • If an item name in the Filter Options pane in Output Viewer is too long that it can’t be viewed entirely, hovering over the name displays a tooltip displaying the complete name.
  • In Output Viewer, a tooltip warning is displayed if entering an invalid value into the Custom Interval Time field for a time series chart.
  • Histograms now display x axis labels as single values in between bars in Output Viewer instead of a range of values, which makes the histogram easier to view and interpret.
  • Gold Runtime versions can now be updated through the Auto-update wizard.

ProModel, MedModel, ServiceModel 2010 SP2 is Windows 7 Certified.

Enterprise Portfolio Simualtor ReleasedProcess Simulator 2011 has been released!
We are proud to announce the release of Process Simulator 2011.  In this release you are able to more easily visualize and analyze simulation results in the new Output Viewer, quickly experiment and compare model changes with independent scenarios, and simplify model building with new advanced modeling constructs.

This release is available for download only from the Solutions Café.

  • Output Viewer (replaces 3DR*) – originally released with ProModel 2010, the new Output Viewer was developed in the latest Microsoft WPF technology. It simplifies the creation of views, provides quicker and more open access for modifying charts and tables, and allows for analysis and comparison of multiple output data sources. The user interface follows the Microsoft fluent UI standard and uses a ribbon for providing access to all the reporting functionality. For the Process Simulator 2011 release, we have added the following new capability to Output Viewer:
    • Sort Column, Utilization, and State Charts – sort your chart data based on highest or lowest values. State charts will even let you choose which state should be sorted.
    • Export Time Series Data – similar to exporting Summary data, you can export any of your time series results from any scenario to Excel.
    • Change Chart Type – you can change the chart style from bar to line, from line to area, from pie to doughnut, etc. Choose from several different chart style options.
  • Independent Scenarios– coupled with the capability introduced in the new Output Viewer, you can run new scenarios independently of each other and compare their results side by side with previously simulated scenarios.
  • Macros – if you have a distribution that is used in multiple places throughout your model, use a macro and then if you need to change that distribution, modify it in one place!  Macros can be used in almost any place in your model like activity logic, routing move time, arrival frequency, etc.  You can also add them as parameters to be utilized in your scenario analysis.
  • Subroutines – if you find yourself writing the same logic in multiple activities throughout your model, put that logic in a subroutine. Then, simply call the subroutine from multiple logic locations. Not only will you reduce the amount of time writing logic, but when you want to make a change, you’ll only need to make it in one place.
  • External Arrivals – define multiple Periodic arrivals in an Excel worksheet and have them automatically initialized in your model when the simulation runs. You can also set the arriving entity’s initial attribute values for things like part numbers, acuity levels, job numbers, etc.
  • Online Help System – gives you access to the latest documentation…all the time.
  • Compatible with Visio 2003, 2007, and 2010!

* Output Viewer 3DR has been replaced with the new .NET Output Viewer. All existing saved 3DR views must be manually recreated in the new Output Viewer. Although creating charts and report views in the new Output Viewer is very easy to do, we realize that it can take time. To help ease the transition from 3DR views to the new Output Viewer report views, we are offering the services of our Technical Support team to assist you in this transition. Please contact ProModel Support to request their assistance (support@promodel.com or 1-888-PROMODEL).
