Workshops
- May 1
Simulation Powers Lean and SixSigma:
Both Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma are well-established programs for
improving process performance and quality in any industry. While Lean
focuses primarily on identifying and eliminating sources of waste to
maximize process performance, Six Sigma focuses on identifying and
eliminating sources of process variation. Ultimately, these are two
sides of the same coin when it comes to maximizing process capability.
Fortunately, simulation is one tool that can be used effectively in
both disciplines to Visualize, Analyze and Optimize process performance.
This seminar will provide a brief overview of how simulation can and
should be used in support of both Lean and Six Sigma. The instructors
will share real-life examples of projects where simulation was used effectively
to identify opportunity and drive process improvement.

Strategic
Planning and Simulation:
In today's competitive environment R&D & IT Executives are responsible
for investing in projects, resources, and process improvement initiatives
that align portfolio performance with organizational goals. However,
not knowing how these investments will perform collectively over time
considering variability and interdependence, makes this task extremely
difficult if not impossible. This workshop will focus on how to address
these types of issues with ProModel's Project/Portfolio solution.
Data
Acquisition, Analysis, and Predictive Decision Making with Simulation:
This course will focus on data analysis and decision making. The first
part of the course will address “static” analysis of historical
data, which will provide a snapshot of process performance and will help
identify improvement opportunities. The second part of the course will
extrapolate the static analysis into dynamic, predictive analysis using
simulation. We will use ProModel’s ED Simulator solution to help
demonstrate how dynamic analysis can significantly improve the decision
making process.
Part 1: Data Analysis
1.1 Statistical Primer: Brief review of standard
descriptive statistics
1.2 Data Acquisition: Strategies for gathering electronic and manual
data relating to people/staff, patients, processes, and policies.
1.3 Data Triage: Evaluating data, identifying data gaps, and developing
data remediation strategies.
1.4 Data Assessment: Graphical and tabular reporting techniques for
synthesizing and visualizing data.
Part 2: Decision Making
2.1 ED Simulator: Brief review of ProModel’s ED Simulator solution.
2.2 Model Inputs/Outputs: Defining model input parameters, key performance
metrics, and output reports.
2.3 Scenario Experiments: Tips on designing simulation experiments and “what
if?” scenarios to address critical process and patient care issues.
2.4 Decision Analysis: Techniques for performing comparative analysis
and evaluating scenario results to facilitate decision making.
ProModel Plug-In's:
People who are gaining the most value from simulation
no longer view it as a single use, or occasional project tool. They
are using it as part of their mission critical, every day operations.
In this workshop you will be exposed to many of the plug-ins which
makes ProModel simulation so versatile. Discover through a practical
situation, how these different application specific plug-ins make simulation
easier to use and more beneficial than ever before.
1. Stat::Fit / Data Analyzer – helps to determine the right statistical
distributions.
2. SimRunner Optimization – helps to automatically run many “what-if” scenarios
to determine the best answer for your situation.
3. OptQuest Optimization – an alternate optimization tool also
designed to help automatically run many “what-if” scenarios
to determine your best answer.
4. 3D Animator – Allows you to view your model animation in 3D.
5. Excel Integration – Provides direct interface with Microsoft
Excel as both an input and output application to allow users to run and
analyze models right from Excel.
6. Process Simulator – Microsoft Visio plug-in which allows you
to rapidly develop actual simulation models right inside Visio within
minutes. Also empowers you to import the model into ProModel for more
complex analysis if necessary.
7. Project Simulator - Microsoft Project plug-in which allows you to
rapidly develop actual project planning and project management simulation
models right inside MS Project.
8. Orchestrate Scheduler – Enables ProModel to be used as the
simulation engine under a finite capacity scheduling application. This
combines the power of scheduling and simulation in “one” unique
tool.
ProModel Becomes Mission Critical:
ProModel 7.0 and its interface ability will allow for the most flexible,
re-usable models ever. See how this customizable combination takes
simulation from being used on one use projects to Mission Critical
applications. ProModel’s experts will demonstrate how simulation
is being taken to new limits in providing predictive decision support
solutions.
Simulation for Managers and Decision Makers:
Find out from decision-makers at companies such as Pfizer and GE why they
trust simulation as their number one decision support solution. Understand
why the ROI of projects visualized, analyzed and optimized with simulation
is so much higher than projects using only traditional methods. Bring
your own questions and participate in this interactive Q & A to ensure
you bring back ideas and tips that will help you more successfully implement
simulation in your organization.
