ProModel’s 4th Annual Conference for Capacity and Productivity Improvement Highlights Client Success Stories in Pharma and Healthcare Industries

ProModel hosted its 4th Annual Conference for Capacity and Productivity Improvement in the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Industries on September 16th and 17th 2010 at the Hyatt Regency by historic Penn’s Landing in the heart of Philadelphia, PA.  Over 50 industry decision makers gathered together for two intense days of interactive workshops and informative presentations that showcased how simulation technology can drastically improve productivity.

The Conference kicked off with keynote speaker Sam Batterman, a Business Intelligence Evangelist from Microsoft Corporation. Sam spoke of companies being able to view tomorrow’s history- today, by fusing together the predictive analytic power of ProModel’s sophisticated simulation tools with Microsoft’s collaboration and development technologies.

A poolside lunch and evening reception and dinner, proved to be great opportunities for attendees to network, exchange information, and share best practices specific to simulation technology being used across the Pharma and Healthcare Industries.

The Conference provided a chance for decision makers to learn from other professionals who are currently using ProModel tools, and allowed for those clients to showcase how simulation technology has improved their operations.  Speakers from various Pharma and Healthcare companies gave presentations highlighting specific projects for which simulation was the correct technology and the value gained from those projects.

Joseph Cancelarich, of Pfizer Global Engineering, elaborated on how simulation technology can create insights that will help process teams improve equipment utilization, delivery of products and improved returns on capital spending.  Another key speaker was Kevin Doyle from the Pipeline and Resource Planning Department at Merck Research Labs. Kevin highlighted how Merck has used simulation to quickly evaluate different capacity configurations in a budget tight environment where departments are increasingly forced to evaluate risks, leverage external capacity, and confidently deliver more with less.

In the Healthcare Track, Jim Montgomery, a Healthcare Executive from Carilion Clinic in Virginia, used his presentation to demonstrate how ProModel simulation helped Carilion centralize their practices and services in a newly constructed clinic located on the main campus.

Day two of the conference allowed guests to get involved in 1 of 2 training classes.  The Simulation and LEAN Methodologies class focused on how to use Process Simulator, our Microsoft Visio Plug-In, to accelerate the results of a Lean project or initiative by conducting virtual Kaizen events.  The Portfolio Simulator Overview Interactive Workshop allowed attendees to learn how ProModel’s Portfolio Simulator and Enterprise Portfolio Simulator can help an organization optimize high-level strategic decisions and realize performance objectives.

Overall, the 2010 ProModel  Pharma and Healthcare Conference in Philadelphia was a success and a great learning opportunity for all involved.  Many in attendance agreed that the conference was a highly interactive and informative, as well as useful towards building a business simulator community.  ProModel would like to thank all those who attended and helped make the event possible.  We look forward to continue providing practical simulation solutions for you and your organization.
