ProModel Corporation's Technology and
Services Lead U.S. Army Forces Command to 2007 Army Modeling and
Simulation Award
It
started back in 2006...
The Army Campaign Plan mandates implementation of ARFORGEN (Army Force Generation). The Commander, FORSCOM (Forces Command) resourced the exploration of a predictive synchronization capability to address ARFORGEN in CY2004. FORSCOM executed a Proof of Principle (POP) using COTS manufacturing software. This software was provided by ProModel Corporation. The POP was successful and the FORSCOM commander allocated additional funds in CY2005 to develop a prototype ARFORGEN Synchronization Tool (AST) for evaluation. ProModel competed in an open solicitation and was awarded the contract to fully develop the AST in January 2006.
And has led to this in 2008...
U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) team won the 2007 Army Modeling
and Simulation award in the Plans and Operations category for the
Army Force Generation (ARFORGEN) Synchronization Tool (AST). FORSCOM
uses ProModel’s custom predictive analytic software and services
to source and synchronize Army resources.
“I would like to extend my personal congratulations to
the winners of this year’s Army Modeling and Simulation (M&S)
Awards. The hard work and dedication to the advancement of M&S
these companies have exhibited in support of the Warfighter is commendable,”
says James C. Cooke, Director of Army Modeling and Simulation.
The awards recognize the dedication and innovation in developing,
improving and using M&S, and contributions to the implementation
of the Army M&S Strategic Vision. These efforts are essential
in providing the Army with the most effective M&S support now
and in future.” Click

In turn, FORSCOM presented ProModel with an award in recognition
of our ability to partner with them and deliver a solution which
continues to meet and exceed their expectations.

ProModel Assists Company During Economic
Hardship
Pillowtex had recently filed for bankruptcy and desperately needed
to cut costs and regain profitability in the next 18 months or face
the prospects of going out of business. It had five plants in the
United States; all making the same three products (pillows, mattress
pads, and comforters), all using identical equipment. Each plant
had similar total floor space, but had different layouts, different
material handling methods, different cycle times, and different
costs.
In order to cut costs and regain profitability, company management
felt that they needed to close some plants and develop a best practices
strategy for the manufacturing operations in the remaining plants.
That would mean developing an optimized layout and material handling
system and then predict the “new” capacity of each plant
so that they could decide on how many and which plants they should
close.
A complicating factor was that customer order-to-delivery time
must not increase, even though shipping distances (by truck) would
increase due to fewer plants. That translated into the need to reduce
manufacturing cycle times, so customers like Wal-Mart didn’t
see an increased order-to-delivery time and refuse the delivery
or charge Pillowtex exorbitant late fees.
