| April: U.S. Airways - Ground Equipment Process Flow, Visualize The Philadelphia hub is one of the largest activity centers for wide body aircraft in the US Airways network. Large and customized ground equipment units called Container Loaders are required to service these aircraft. US Airways was considering the capital investment of adding incremental new units to the inventory in order to increase service capacity and improve service. ServiceModel was used to investigate how process changes and the resulting performance measure estimates might justify or prevent the significant capital expense of the proposed new unit purchase. Analyze The user-friendly interface and powerful flexibility of ServiceModel allowed the efficient development of a model that measured and accounted for the following key metrics and operational variables: • Actual Ramp Distances The completed model was validated to current operations, confirmed by the front-line workforce and finally used in experimental scenarios to compare the overall performance metrics of the current situation and the proposed situation at all possible resource levels. The final recommendation proved to management that the slight improvement in service utilizing the incremental inventory did not justify the capital expense and the time savings were inconsequential to the overall operational goals in comparison to current operation. The final recommendation also focused important attention to key assumptions and revealed new areas within the operational critical chain that required additional improvement to further our operational success. ServiceModel assisted US Airways in preventing the capital expenditure
